Birchfield's Year of Reading

Year of Reading

Birchfield School is proudly taking part in the National Year of Reading, strengthening our commitment to inspiring a lifelong love of reading in every pupil. To start our celebration, we had a launch assembly where we got to see our teachers reading in unusual places!

As part of this exciting journey, all children were able to choose two free books from our pop‑up bookshop before the Christmas holidays, with two more visits planned throughout the year. In early February, we celebrated National Storytelling Week with the theme “Soundtrack Your Story.” Our Early Years pupils enjoyed Rhyme, Rhythm and Wriggles—a lively singalong and story session with poet Simon Mole and musician Gecko. KS1 brought stories to life through sound with Annemarie Anang, while KS2 explored storytelling through rap with Alim Kamara. These inspiring experiences are just the beginning, and we look forward to continuing our celebration of reading and storytelling throughout 2026.
